SHAKTI

As a Harlem-born poet, producer, author, editor, and educator, I'm energized by conversation, I thrive off collaboration, and I seek to build others up in the ebb and flow of giving and receiving— this is what stokes my creative fire.

In addition to a lifetime of creative writing, I have 6 years of editing and office/administrative experience, 10 years of hospitality and customer service, 12 years of educational experience as an English tutor and SAT Teacher, and 20+ years of artistic experience working on several film, theatrical, and commercial productions as a Stage Manager, Actor, Stylist, Producer, Production Assistant, and Creative Consultant.

As a writer, I work with words that leap off the page, insight profound feeling, and invoke a sense of presence. The result is sensational, self-aware, and dualistic wordplay that bridges the philosophical gap between Eastern and Western Traditions and falls somewhere between poetry and prose.

As an editor, I am inspired by the ability to bring others' voices into their true potential and have been praised for my critical feedback and keen eye. My unique perspective cuts to the core of any project with great respect for the author's vision and voice. From the first draft to the final review, I conduct a comprehensive study of the work, leaving no stone unturned in the quest to elevate the writing to its highest potential.

As a teacher, I am a firm believer in Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. I acknowledge the whole child and respect the diversity of learning styles found in my students by catering to the needs of the individual and playing to his, her, or their strengths. I believe creativity is our greatest resource and that the Arts are catalysts of healing and change.

On August 20th 2020, I successfully completed a fundraising campaign to self-publish my first book The Love Letter: a visual poem and collaboration with artist Rasa Vaišvilaitė available for pre-order this November. I am also working on my first poetry collection, two novels, a series of children's books, and a tarot collection.
